If you are a sports fan of teams in Michigan, you are in for a treat this weekend.
Sure, most sports fans can enjoy their favorite college football team and favorite NFL team play this weekend, and most weekends, throughout the fall and winter. But how many can hit the trifecta and also have their favorite MLB team playing in the playoffs? Well, fans of the Detroit Lions, Michigan Wolverines, and Detroit Tigers get to hit said trifecta this weekend. Oh, and fans of Michigan State too.
The fun begins at noon on Saturday as the Badgers of Wisconsin travel to Michigan stadium and the home of our 20th ranked Michigan Wolverines. Michigan (3-1) is off to a nice lil' start this season. Their only loss was a tough one at a very much underrated Oklahoma. Michigan seems to get better each week. They can run the ball and they can now, for the first time since 2023, pass the ball. Bryce Underwood may go down as the best quarterback in the history of Michigan football...if he stays for three years of course. Michigan is a huge favorite in this game as Wisconsin has started off the season at a disappointing 2-2.
After enjoying the Michigan win, we will have about 5 hours to fire up the grill and eat some good food and relax before the first pitch of the Detroit Tigers vs the Seattle Mariners game. First pitch is at 8:38 pm EST. As of the time I am writing this blog, I am not aware yet of who the starting pitchers will be. The Tigers could start Tarik Skubal, but he'd be pitching on just three days rest. My guess is we'll see Skubal in game 2. The 90 win Mariners won the AL West and feature the Major League leader in homeruns, Cal Raleigh. Raleigh blasted 60 long balls this past season.
Next on tap for sports fans in Michigan this weekend is at 1 pm on Sunday as the Detroit Lions travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals. The Bengals will be without quarterback, Joe Burrow. What could have been a promising season this year for the Bengals is off to a rough start. After winning their first two games, they have lost their next two without Burrow. The Lions, on the otherhand, are on fire since dropping their week 1 game to the Green Bay Packers. In their three straight wins, the Lions are putting up 41 points per game. Their defense looks dominant and, on the offensive side of the ball, their run game and pass game are both unstoppable.
And capping off this weekend of sports, will be game 2 of the ALDS, again from Seattle. First pitch for game 2 is 8:03 pm EST Sunday night. It's crucial that the Tigers take one of these first two games. And if they can steal whichever game Skubal isn't pitching, wow, we could definitely have a similiar weekend next weekend with Michigan travelling to USC Saturday night, the Lions traveling the KC for the Sunday night game, and the Tigers playing in the ALCS.
Oh and Michigan State plays this weekend too (4:00 pm at Nebraska).
